Downtown Waco's 2026 Fall Events Spread Across Several Weekends

Last fall, Baylor Homecoming, Halloween, and the city's Día de los Muertos festivities all landed on the same weekend. Baylor's own recap of the 2025 season called it out directly: Homecoming fell on Halloween weekend that year, and the campus response was to bolt a kids' fall festival onto the bonfire lineup just to give families something to do that wasn't a parade or a football game. Downtown parking got tight. Restaurant reservations got harder. If you lived here, you picked one event and skipped the other two, or you tried to do all three and spent half the weekend walking between blocked-off streets.

This year the calendar spreads the load across several weekends rather than concentrating it on one. Baylor's homecoming parade and football game against Iowa State now falls on Saturday, November 7, a full week later than last year's pairing. Magnolia's Silobration runs earlier in October and, for the first time in its eleven-year history, stretches across four full days instead of three. Waco Restaurant Week moved its dates too, landing in the same week as Homecoming rather than piling onto Halloween the way it has in past years. None of these moves were coordinated with each other. Each one happened for its own reason. But the combined effect is a fall that spreads out instead of collapsing into a single overloaded weekend downtown.

What Actually Changed on the Baylor Side

The scheduling shift starts with the Big 12's conference calendar. Baylor's 2026 home schedule, announced by the athletics department in June, puts the Iowa State game on November 7 and labels it Homecoming outright. That's a different opponent and a different date than 2025's Homecoming matchup against UCF, which fell on November 1.

The UCF game itself didn't disappear from the 2026 slate. It moved. A recent breakdown of Baylor's football schedule notes that the UCF matchup shifted off its usual Saturday slot entirely, landing instead on a standalone Friday night, October 30, at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN, as a national television window ahead of a short week heading into Homecoming. That means the game most closely associated with last year's Homecoming weekend now happens a full week earlier, on a Friday, with no parade or bonfire attached to it.

For anyone who lives near campus or downtown, this matters in a practical way. Last year, the road closures around Baylor's campus for Homecoming-related activities and the closures tied to a Saturday football game happened on the same days. This year those pressures land on two different weekends, which means two smaller traffic disruptions instead of one large one.

Silobration Gets Bigger and Moves Earlier

Magnolia's fall event has always been a fixture on the calendar, but this year's version changes shape. The company's own announcement, released in June, confirmed Silobration runs October 22 through 25, the first time in the event's history that it extends through a full Sunday. Previous years wrapped by Saturday afternoon.

The scale grew along with the length. Organizers are bringing in more than 90 vendors this year, up from roughly 80 the year before, and the concert lineup now spans three full days of live music with headlining sets from The Fray and Dylan Gossett, plus a Sunday morning gathering with Christian artist Cory Asbury to close things out. Last year's event, in 2025, already drew a record crowd of more than 30,000 guests to the Silos in downtown Waco. A fourth day and a larger vendor footprint suggest organizers are planning for that number to grow again.

One detail worth knowing if you're local: Magnolia's retail locations are normally closed on Sundays, so a Silobration that runs into Sunday is a genuine departure from how the property usually operates, not just a scheduling footnote.

Because Silobration now runs Thursday through Sunday in the back half of October, it sits a full week ahead of the UCF game and nearly two weeks ahead of Homecoming. There's no overlap to manage here. It's simply its own weekend.

The Diwali Festival Gets Room to Breathe

Four days before Silobration opens, downtown hosts the second annual Diwali Festival at Bridge St. Plaza on October 18. The event is presented by the Asian Leaders Network alongside the Waco Downtown Farmers Market and includes performers, local vendors, and arts and crafts. It's a smaller event than Silobration or Homecoming, but it benefits from the same spacing. With nothing else competing for downtown attention that weekend, it gets its own footing instead of getting lost in a crowded calendar.

Restaurant Week Finds a New Home

Waco Restaurant Week has run in late October for years, typically overlapping with Halloween weekend and, in recent years, with the city's Día de los Muertos parade and festival at Indian Spring Park. The 2025 edition ran October 24 through November 1 and closed out alongside that weekend's other festivities.

For 2026, the event's own site confirms new dates: November 6 through 14. That's a shift of roughly two weeks later, and it now runs directly through Homecoming week rather than through Halloween weekend. Restaurant registration proceeds support Keep Waco Beautiful, a local nonprofit, and since the event began in 2019 it has raised $110,000 for community causes while letting participating restaurants keep 100 percent of their own sales.

The practical effect for anyone planning a week of dinners out: Restaurant Week does not coincide with Silobration or the October 30 UCF game, but it does overlap with Homecoming week and the November 7 game. If you've ever tried to get a table during a week when several events were also happening, lining up the dates shows which events still overlap.

Reading the Calendar This Way

None of this was planned as a package. The Big 12 sets football schedules independently of Magnolia's event calendar, and Magnolia's event calendar has nothing to do with a nonprofit dining week organized separately. But laid out side by side, the fall now reads as several distinct windows, though Restaurant Week still overlaps Homecoming:

Dates Event Location
Oct. 18 Diwali Festival Bridge St. Plaza
Oct. 22-25 Silobration Magnolia Silos, 601 Webster Ave.
Oct. 30 Baylor vs. UCF (Friday night, ESPN) McLane Stadium
Nov. 6-14 Waco Restaurant Week Citywide
Nov. 7 Baylor Homecoming vs. Iowa State Downtown parade route and McLane Stadium

If you're the kind of person who plans a fall around what's happening downtown, this is useful in a very ordinary way. You don't have to choose between the vendor fair and the football game this year, because they're two weekends apart. Restaurant Week now runs in a different stretch of the calendar than it did in 2025, but it still overlaps Homecoming and the parade route on November 7. The spacing isn't dramatic, but it's real, and it's the kind of thing you only notice if you're paying attention to the dates rather than just the headlines.

Whether this spacing holds up in future years is anyone's guess. Conference schedules shift, event organizers adjust, and next year's calendar could easily compress again. For now, 2026 spreads Waco's fall events across several weekends, though Restaurant Week overlaps Homecoming; that's worth knowing before you start filling in your own October and November.
